it'd been a lonely year

it seemed things would never be the same

without that girl lying to his smile

no song could ever compensate

for his tortured heart that fate

delivered when she slept with his best friend

only time can heal

but moments slithered by so slow

like a lingering snake pulling him into the undertow

he squandered every last penny

it seemed life would never let him pass go

so he found a place to hide and cry

until he poured out all his pain

his friends all thought he was selfish

but he's just a simple lovesick spineless jellyfish

he wasn't the man he used to be

and that is why

he is the glutton of sympathy

he set his sights on nowhere and found a whole world he'd never seen

and shed the weight of his heaviest sigh

and as he watched the doors close to a past he'd left behind

it all seemed like a dream
